READROOM
Online Periodical Viewing Door
File Name : RDRM20.XXX
Author : Exhibit A Communications, InfoMat BBS 714-492-8727
Registration : $15.00
READROOM is an online viewing door that provides an environment for
all your online publications. READROOM will provide your users a choice
between up to 99 different publications, each with up to 99 different
articles. This door supports ASCII, ANSI text and ANSIART file viewing.
READROOM will work with any BBS that can produce a DOOR.SYS file,
either directly, or using a conversion program. READROOM can also,
optionally, allow a user to download the currently selected periodical
using sysop defied transfer protocols.
Advanced Features in this version include the ability to define a
logfile to track who opens a given publication. Sysops can also set
separate security levels for each publication if they so desire.
Sysop's can chat with users with full wordwrapping, drop to DOS or
twit a caller without the caller ever knowing the sysop is watching.
READROOM is fully interupt driven, so there should be no need to use
fossil drivers. It also handles data transfer at rates up to 115,200 baud
as well as handle communications ports other than Com1 or Com2. It
Contains it's own ANSI driver, and also supports the 16550 UART chips
through the FIFO buffers.
READROOM will only run on a BBS system that is capable of Creating a
DOOR.SYS file. READROOM also relies heavily on the READROOM.TOC file for
simplifying the setup and maintenance of your publications. Also, if you
wish to allow your users to download publications, you will need an
external file transfer protocol. Included in the archive are sample batch
files for DSZ, but any protocol should do.
I won't go into the complete set-up except to say it is very easy.
Once you have set up your first magazine, the rest take less than 5
minutes. I presently have about 10 online magazines avail on my board
including the TriBBS Newsletter
Along with READROOM there is an offline reading program called
READER20. It uses the same READROOM.TOC file so if you user downloads the
magazine from your board, they will be able to read it without any other
program. READER is included and is free for you users to use.
There are many online magazines that are now using the READROOM.TOC
format besides the TriBBS Newsletter, they include Poetry In Motion - The
poetry Newsletter, Computer Talk Magazine, Ruby's Pearls ElecMag -
Fiction Magazine (and a TriBBS board) Modem News Magazine, Online News
and Reviews, Random Access Humor (RAH), Runes Rag, Spilled Ink, and Smoke
and Mirrors. There are more as I am continualy finding new ones each
week.
So, as you can see, READROOM is a program that can do nothing more
than ADD to your board. Giving users the chance to do somthing other than
rape your files, or play door games. It can give them a chance to expand
their horizons.
As with every file reveiwed in this newsletter, RDRM20.XXX is avail
on my board, Imagine at 813-936-4405. Or you can download it from the
authors board.
